My Fear Of Vehicles And Sounds

When I was really little, I was terrified of the sounds my dad’s work truck made whenever he arrived home and do I mean terrified. In fact I got so scared of the noise that I would literally stop whatever I was doing (whether it’d be watching cartoons or playing with my toys) and hurry into any closet to hide or any far away space until the noises stopped after my dad turned off his truck. Later it got to the point that I’d go into hiding even before he got home. My mom tried explaining to me that I had a while to wait, but I was still too scared.
Part of my way getting over this whole thing was more exposure to the noise like on our vacations. Using sidewalks, crosswalks and being around a lot of traffic in a city. With more time in traffic, I learned to pay more attention to the traffic itself and not the noise.
As I got older I kind of got quick-triggered with certain noises such as dog barks or finger-snapping. Sometime I’ve even seen kids in school with noise-cancelling headphones on to deal with their surroundings. I myself never needed to wear special headphones.
I would appreciate if anyone knows someone with autism if they would tell me what noise triggered them and if they were able to ever overcome it.
Please share, this could someone with a disability. If you subscribe, you can pictures to the comments section.

Special thanks to my friend Billy Brown, who drew this picture and also has autism.
