The Sound of Snapping Fingers

When I was younger I remember really wanting to snap my fingers because of how cool it seemed. But I always had trouble doing it until I got help from my dad which allowed me to do it whenever I wanted to.

However that all changed forever around the beginning of summer in 2013 when my brother Brody developed a habit of constantly doing it thanks to his passion for music. He’d do it at any time anywhere such as hanging around the house, going on family rides, family vacations and football. Sometime down the line I began finding this really aggravating when I was trying to sleep, watch TV, play a video game, do my homework and read. At many times it even sounded like he was doing 100 snaps a minute.

It got so irritating that I would even start screaming at him to stop but that only made him do it more. Eventually this made loath the sound altogether when it happened at school from my teachers and classmates.

One night after getting into a fight with my mom, I went outside angry and my dad noticed then made me do a game of basketball with him. I tried to refuse but he made me join anyway and I got even more annoyed to see Brody coming down to join us that I knew would make the game go on longer accompanied with him snapping his fingers. We didn’t start off too bad until one of our throws didn’t go the right way so dad had us start over again with what? A finger snap much to my infuriation.

Just when I thought it was bad enough with Brody’s constant finger snapping, dad starts doing it as well. But this case would be for discussions concerning family and friends, something happening from his phone and because of TV commercials. Like Brody, he did it on trips, vacations and during football games as well. I even noticed a thing of him snapping his fingers one day and then snapping them again the day after the next. Every time I got angry because of it, I’d end up getting yelled at.

Honestly while this whole hatred thing has died down in recent years, but I still get this unpleasant feeling whenever it actually happens or when a random memory pops in my mind along with my mom occasionally doing it. Pretty ridiculous how one simple noise I grew up hearing my life became a serious nuisance for me because a family habit.
