Having My Own Pet

While I’ve had pets throughout my life in the family (mainly dogs, but a goldfish briefly when I was little and a rabbit much later on), I never had a dog that was specifically for me until much recently.
Last year, my family started having discussions about me getting my own dog as we wanted another one. At first I wasn’t too sure on what to think of the situation until I thought about it more then decided to go along with the idea.
I felt like that this could be a good opportunity for me as I felt having my very own pet could help me learn more responsibilities and become a more patient person.
We went to Pennsylvania to purchase her and there were two to chose from. The breeder said to let the puppy choose me and I was so glad that the one I really wanted chose me. The dog’s name was Bella which was the name that had been appearing in my mind for a while but in the car on the way home, I decided to change her name to Lily after my grandmother.
Having my own pet was quite challenging for a while as I to change my usual schedule to make time to take care of Lily. I am one that is very schedule-oriented and value my own time, this was a big undertaking for me. I had to make sure to get her exercise, house-train her and feed her the right amount of food.
Although trying at times can be quite difficult, I feel like this whole experience has taught me new responsibilities and I’m proud to have my dog.

First day with Lily after picking her up.
