Cage of Eden Review

Let's talk about the manga series Cage of Eden (also known in Japan as Eden no Ori). I found about this manga back in high school, but couldn’t find a way to read it until years later. It sure is a lengthy series with 21 volumes consisting of 185 chapters, with burnouts and focusing on other personal things over the years getting in the way which made me forget about continuing it until a year ago.

I have to say, despite my limited experience with manga, this was a really good read with a group of junior high students getting trapped on an uncharted island populated by extinct animals and other hostile castaways that they have to work together to survive against.

I find the artwork impressive and detailed, the characters all unique with their own personality traits, awesome action sequences, interesting information regarding how to take care of physical injuries, obscure historical events, and types of extinct large mammals (no non-avian dinosaurs) that even I didn’t know about.

Issues I had was it being too long, some points felt like they dragged on for a while, there were a bit too many characters to keep track of, and the ending was confusing with certain things never being addressed, but still a worthy read in my opinion.

I rate it 8/10.
