Before You Fire Them: A Practical Guide to Understanding Your Autistic Employee's Traits, Intentions, and Communication Style Book Review

This is a guide for employers to understand their autistic employees' traits, intentions, and communication style instead of firing them right away.

It explains that while the autistic employees may have quirks and commit acts that can be seen as fireable, it's important to learn and understand that from the employees' perspective that they earnestly are trying to be a positive asset to the team, despite their negatively-appearing actions.

Also for neurotypical autistic communication, some sentences and orders can feel like totally different languages for them which can to misunderstandings, which in turn leads to more trouble.

I found this book very relatable as I myself had experienced similar issues mentioned at my old job such as misinterpreting certain directions given to me that wound up creating an issue due to frustrating my coworkers and not giving them eye contact that led them to believe I wasn't paying attention to them. Asking questions about a certain situation I wasn't 100% sure about was also common. Struggling to changes in routines, constant reminders and explanations, confusion with certain tasks that seemed simple to others, and speaking in harsh or angry-sounding tones of voices I of course experienced when working.

I recommend this book and what I think really helps is it being written by a person on the autism spectrum
